Last week's game of the week award goes to the spook-tastic Candies 'n Curses

This week it's been one of the closest run game of the week awards we've ever seen, but after sending the numbers to a specially convened council of counting elders in Bern, we can now reveal that Candies n' Curses has been awarded this week's title.

It's a spectacular mix of the old and the new that sees you legging it around a series of spooky one-screen dungeons, trying to kill ghosts with a flashlight. At first glance it might look like another simple high-score chaser, but trust us, there's so much more going on here than that. Read on and find out what.

For one thing, there's a glorious mania to Candies n' Curses that sets it out from the pack. The simple controls allow the game to throw more enemies at you, because it knows you've got a chance of defeating them.

There are special skills to find, new buffs to unlock, and loads and loads of different flashlights to try your hand with. That all adds up to a wonderful compulsion to push on. You're not just trying to beat an arbitrary number, because every journey toughens up your character in one way or another.
