So you're playing Miitomo, already raking in the coins thanks to our previous guide, but you may notice two levels alongside your coin stash.

These represent Popularity and Style Level respectively, but it's not fully explained how you should go about increasing them.

But don't fret - we've got you covered. Here are some top tips for getting popular, and looking good while you do so.

Keep track

The first tip is a basic one, but it's something I didn't learn until relatively recently.

While you're given a basic overview of your levels on the main screen, you can get a much better idea of your progress in both areas by tapping the Profile panel in the menu.

This breaks down your exact number of Popularity and Style points, and how many you need to reach the next level.

This is useful, because it allows you to check whether or not your actions are having the desired impact.

Change it up

The Style level is a lot easier to increase, so we'll start here.

Essentially, all you need to do is change your outfit regularly. A complete change isn't necessary either, so you can just switch out your headpiece, for example.

There's a limit on how often this is effective, for obvious reasons, but changing your outfit once or twice a day should be enough to make good progress here.

Buying new outfits with the coins you've accrued is recommended, too, although trying to win in Miitomo Drop can be a good alternative if you're low on coins.

Keep your friends close…

Popularity level is a lot harder to increase, because its primary measure seems to be based on your number of friends.

The simplest way, then, is to add everyone with whom you share a high number of mutual friends - this isn't Facebook, so that's not taboo yet - and to connect with both Facebook and Twitter to maximise your reach.

You can also increase your Popularity level through hitting certain social goals, but the specifics of these are quite arcane.

Simply put, if you're answering, listening to other people's answers, and commenting as advised in our coins guide, there should eventually be some pay-off.

And, if you're serious about your Miitomo Popularity level, you'll have to get over the awkwardness of befriending strangers.
