Chances are you've just received a brand new mobile phone or tablet for Christmas, and you're looking for something to keep you busy over the chilled out festive period.

Well, why not give Rayman Adventures a whirl? It's the follow-up to much loved mobile platformers Jungle Run and Fiesta Run.

It does play slightly differently though. You'll still spend most of your time running, punching, and gliding around a collection of gorgeous UbiArt levels, but this time you're not locked to moving in a single direction.

With a quick swipe you can change direction and explore the crevices of each level to find hidden treasures, Lums, and Teensies.

The most exciting new addition has to be the Incrediballs though. These are powerful new allies for Rayman, who'll join you in a level and provide you with special abilities to help you get a higher score.

To help you get the most out of your Incrediballs - as well as Rayman's skillset in general - we've spent some time with the game to bring you this extensive beginners guide.

Don't neglect your Incrediballs

Incrediballs are a brand new addition to the Rayman franchise, so you probably won't be quite sure what they're capable of at first. Well, don't be shy and try and get used to the idea of using them.

You'll be grateful for that when you've seen the abilities they can offer. Not only do they help you to safely make it to the end of a level, they're also essential for getting the highest scores.

There are three different families of Incrediball. Seekers hunt down hidden Lums, Teensies, and treasure, Protectors prevent you from taking damage, and Inhalers draw in all nearby Lums for your convenience.

Any three Incrediballs can join join you in each level, and the power of their abilities will increase the more you bring of the same type of family. You should exploit this.

Always consider what type of Incrediball is useful in each of the levels. Seekers are the most helpful in levels where you have to find all of the Teensies, Protectors will keep you safe in the challenging combat levels, and Inhalers will help you collect all of the Lums in Lum-collecting levels.

Those and the combat levels are the only two where you have to bring three members of the same Incrediball family. Hidden Teensie levels and time trials both have combat sequences so you can bring a Protector or two too.

Use Rayman's skillset to your advantage

Incrediballs are exciting, yes, but let's not forget that Rayman is the original hero and has a bunch of useful abilities of his own - like punching, ground-pounding, wall jumping, grabbing ledges, and gliding.

What you won't realise right away though is that you can use this abilities in some creative ways to get different results.

Did you know you can punch to gain speed when running? Or that you'll jump forward with greater speed if you punch just before jumping? That comes in incredibly handy - and is almost essential - in time trial levels.

Also, your ground pound can be used defensively as well as offensively. You can use it to stop immediately in the air when you need to.

This evasive move is very useful in time trials, where you can ground pound onto bouncy objects and get thrown at speed through the level.
