Despite the obvious appeal of the WWE SLAM: Card Trader apps for fans of sports entertainment, it can be kind of a bummer when you open a bunch of virtual packs and can't find any of the insert cards you seek.

Recently, Topps has been doing more and more to fight this feeling by allowing users of all of its digital trading card apps to have a choice: Either spend small amounts of coins for just a chance at some of the cooler cards, or pony up more and get some inserts guaranteed.

The latest packs on WWE SLAM go one better, because they guarantee you one of the new Topps Heritage 2016 inserts. Styled like famous Topps Baseball sets of the past -- in this case, the 1986 Topps Baseball design -- these cards feature a mix of current superstars, WWE Legends, and NXT prospects, as well as digital relic and autograph cards.

(They also mimic the physical 2016 Topps WWE Heritage cards that are available now.)

There are three options for acquiring these cards, all of which are live in the WWE SLAM app now:

Heritage Pack - Wave 1 (10,000 coins)

This seven-card pack contains mostly cards from the Series 1 base set, but also guarantees one Topps Heritage White or Red variant card. It also gives you a 1:20 chance as a Turn Back the Clock insert and a 1:50 chance at a Mat Relic card with a digital piece of actual WWE mat.

Heritage Super Pack - Wave 1 (25,000 coins)

With 12 cards, this pack ups the ante by guaranteeing you 3-6 Heritage base cards from either the White, Red, or Bronze tiers. It also offers improved odds on other rare inserts: 1:5 for Turn Back the Clock, 1:15 for Mat Relics, and 1:30 for Clothing Relics. The catch here is that the Super Pack is only available if you have made a real money coin purchase from the app, though even the cheapest one (4,000 coins for 99 cents) will unlock it.

Heritage Premium Pack - Wave 1 (500,000 coins)

For the big virtual spenders out there, this pack delivers nothing but Topps Heritage cards. You'll get 30 cards total, at least 22 of which are White, Red, Bronze, or Silver Heritage base cards. You also get 2 guaranteed Turn Back the Clock inserts, a guaranteed Mat Relic and Clothing relic, and a guaranteed Blue Autograph limited to 250 copies. Topping it off, there's a chance at additional Bronze Autographs (1:2 packs), Silver Autographs (1:5 packs), and a special Brock Lesnar Shorts Relic Card (1:25). It's a big price, as 500,000 coins is roughly equivalent to between $50 and $60, but it's also a massive haul.

The trick for card companies, even for their digital products, is to walk the tightrope between making their cards scarce enough to be desirable and available enough that everyone has a shot at them, and Topps is doing a nice work by structuring packs in this fashion. Be sure to check out WWE SLAM soon, because like most of the special cards to hit the app, Topps Heritage won't be around forever.
