Firemint Games, the developers of the 148Apps five star rated game Flight Control, have just released their sales figures for the app while it held the #1 spot in the iTunes App Store. The period covered stretches from March 24th to April 25th 2009, which is a sizable amount of time for an app to hold that position.

Here’s some of the information from the report:

- Sales from March 23rd to April 19th: 587,485
- Estimated sales to date (6 March to 27 April): over 700,000
- Best day overall sales: Over 35,000
- Highest daily sales per country: 19,164 (USA)

What’s really unfortunate is that due to the dates that they chose to monitor the exact numbers for, we’re not able to figure out how many apps they sold prior to reaching the number one spot. There is a small bit of information that focuses on the free publicity they received after already being in the spotlight, but no mention of marketing strategies that lead up to their success.

The most interesting bit of information gleamed from this report, in my opinion, was the following:

Flight Control retained its #1 position even after daily sales started to decline, suggesting that chart position is calculated on a moving average rather than a single day’s performance.

I definitely recommend taking a look through the report if you’re interested in more than just purchasing iPhone apps.
