So, a lot has changed since Fallout Shelter was first released and, with the advent of Fallout 4, this might be the perfect time to return to your vault.

We’ve rounded up some handy tips and tricks to get you to grips with what’s new.

The subtle additions

You can now save your vault to the Cloud. Make sure you do!

It lets you pick up where you left off on your iPhone or iPad and, more importantly, prevents you from losing your progress if something happens to your device.

You can also now snap photos and share them with friends. It’s simple stuff, but quite fun when you want to illustrate a point.

And, finally, the new statistics page gives you information like how long you’ve played the game, how resource production is going, how well you’re averting incidents when rushing production, and miscellaneous information about specific dwellers.

Survival Mode - the meaty stuff

A new Survival Mode was added recently and it’s TOUGH.

Resources drain at a much faster rate, incidents cause a lot more destruction than ever before, and dead dwellers can’t be revived.

With that in mind, make sure any dwellers with low health don’t run into burning or infested buildings, and that they’re hidden from trouble. It's probably a good idea to keep your strongest dwellers in rooms where they can quickly respond to an invasion too.

Here's a few quickfire tips to get you prepared for Survival Mode:

  • Use Special Characters wisely - try to only send one of them out to explore at a time.
  • Dwellers can now scavenge equipment from dead Raiders, so use that to your advantage.
  • Keep an eye out for the Mysterious Stranger who appears occasionally in your vault. Catch him and you’ll gain some all important caps.
  • It’s not exclusive to survival mode, but there’s an explorer limit cap of 10 now so use those few explorers wisely. Only send out those that are most likely to survive an excursion, otherwise it’s just a complete waste of time and resources.

Don’t feel bad if you don’t want to risk Survival Mode and avoid it completely if you’re quite attached to your dwellers. Few people are going to get out of this alive.
