Avoid shopping sprees
When you see all of the furniture options available to you, it can be tempting to splurge on expensive, fancy new items. When you're first starting out, try to resist the urge to empty your pockets. Build up your star score and fill your coffers a bit more before cashing out.

Sometimes less is more
Each design challenge gives you objectives to reach -- whether that's a certain number of items of a certain color or specific combinations of furniture. While you want to focus on reaching those goals, you'll also have a chance to add extra items to really spice things up. Sometimes adding extra accessories can be a nice touch, but be careful of making things too gaudy. People will notice and this could affect your star score. Try to resist going over the top with your decorations.

If you tap the trophy icon on the bottom left of the main screen, you can check out the players with the top star scores. This is actually a valuable resouce if you're looking to boost your own status in the game. Study up on some of these users and see if you can spot any trends in what makes a top rated room. Then, apply these techniques to your rooms and start experimenting.
