CSR Racing 2 update: What you need to know about new cars, Live Race revamp and more

CSR Racing 2 was already plenty good. With stunning graphics, enough different game modes to keep people coming back, and actual multiplayer races, Naturalmotion gave gearheads something that was worth the wait.

Could it be even better, though? Most mobile games can be, and the developers have been up to more than just adding new cars to the game -- though there's been some of that too. The latest update for CSR Racing 2tinkers with the gameplay in a couple of areas and even may affect what's in your garage. We opened up the throttle to take a look.

Live Race streaks are a thing of the past

Live Races have been completely revamped. Previously, the way to the best rewards in multiplayer races was to string together long winning streaks, which was tough to do for anyone who didn't have seriously beefed up cars and a lot of skill.

No more. Now the idea is to get to a total number of wins, so you can afford to lose a race every now and then without risking disaster. If you think that will make Live Races easier to mine for rewards, that's kind of the point -- Naturalmotion wants more players to be able to get better stuff.

In addition, the matchmaking has supposedly been enhanced, and the game admits (during the loading screens) that at times when the servers aren't very busy, Live Races may not be against human opponents. That's honesty in action.

More fusion power

If you've played CSR2 for any length of time, you've probably experienced some disappointment at what fusion parts do for your favorite rides. These are supposed to be rare parts that take at least some effort to acquire, and they sometimes don't affect your PP at all. What's up with that?

Maybe nothing after the update. Fusion parts are now said to have a bigger update on a car's performance, though yours truly hasn't had much of a chance to put that to the test yet.

Crew coups

Crew leaders going M.I.A. can be a problem, since they can reap the benefits of the other members' work without doing any of their own. And since they started the group, there's nothing anyone can do about it other than leaving the crew.

Or that was the case. Now neglected crew members can sack their leader if he or she is an absentee. I've actually seen that the game will give you a warning if you haven't logged in for a while, though since I', the only member of my CSR Racing 2, the chances of being overthrown were minimal. At least I'd think so.

Goodbye Scion

A few cars have been replaced by others from the same manufacturer. Notably, the Scion is gone, probably because the make is on its way out in real life.

If one of your cars is replaced, you'll receive a car of the same tier and with all of the same upgrades intact. CSR Racing 2 also throws in 20 gold for your trouble, so it's not a bad deal overall.

All told, it's a solid update, especially when you take into account that new cars have also joined the fun. Fire it up and see for yourself, but give your crew leader a break before you get out the torches and pitchforks, okay?
