[Want to know what we thought about all these cards and kings? Take a look at our Card King: Dragon Wars review.]

So, you’ve just downloaded Card King: Dragon Wars and you’re not entirely sure what to do next. While the game does a decent job of teaching you the basics, we’re here to fill in the gaps and hopefully give you a head start in becoming a tougher fighter.

Prep work

  • Like so many freemium games, Card King: Dragon Wars likes to offer a reason to log in each day. Make sure you take advantage of that and log in each day - you’ll gain extra currency simply for enthusiasm.
  • While you’re logging in each day, pursue those daily quests for more money. Some don’t take long to complete at all, meaning you don’t have to worry if you’ve only got limited time available. You can gain precious gems this way too which leads me onto my next point.
  • Gems go towards providing you with a method to acquire premium cards. Those premium cards are always better than what you’ve already got, and can really give you an edge in battle. Thanks to a steady supply of quests, it won’t take you long to gain some either.
  • Level up your creatures frequently. You don’t want a huge deck of useless fighter - you want a smaller deck of strong creatures. It’ll work more efficiently and you won’t have to worry about those all-important gems being used up to buy more storage space.
  • Replay old missions. It’s usually pretty easy to do, plus you can gain new creatures and money through going back.

Battling it Out

  • Fairly early on, you get to be helped by a suitably titled Helper. You borrow this from another player and they back you up. Early on, you can summon higher skill levels to help out and they really make a difference. These have to be equipped manually though so don’t forget to do it!
  • Build up your strength. At the start of a battle, you’re better off stacking support and shield abilities on your team before considering unleashing an attack. Otherwise, you’ll end up inflicting hardly any damage and gaining little. Planning is everything.
  • Don’t forget that ability cards stack, so you can go crazy with building up stats.
  • Using any kind of card goes towards building up your hero card meter too, so you’re always working towards something potentially incredibly strong.
  • Plan your energy points wisely. You only have finite resources so some cards are better to be saved for later than others. What you’re given is decided randomly so learn to adapt fast.
  • Focus on one enemy at a time. Look at their stats and hp to work out who to hit first. I tend to favor lowest HP first as they’re generally quicker to take out.
  • Sometimes you’re better off having a weaker but more balanced deck of cards available, than a set of high energy ones that you’ll rarely be able to use. Don’t get in a position where you have all 5 energy point cards or all 60 point cards. It’ll cut down on the effective moves you can make before running out of energy that turn.
