call-of-duty-world-at-war-zombies-iphone-ipod-040Gasp, that title took me about an hour to type out. I did a review a few weeks back on COD:WAW:Z and found it to be an enjoyable, but short experience. After a few hours of gameplay I put the app down and never came back to it. With only one level, the replayability just isn’t there unless you really got into the multiplayer mode.

Well now there is a new level to play.”Originally released as downloadable content for Call of Duty: World at War, “Verrückt” gives players the opportunity to experience a new location, new weapons, electro-shock defenses, Perks-A-Cola Machines and the endless attacking legions of Undead.”

Verrückt is available as an in-app purchase, and can be had for $4.99. I know, $4.99 is pretty steep for a level, but just think… you already bought the first level for $9.99, what’s another $5?

Or you could look at it this way. At $15, you could possess two levels of COD:WAW:Z. Let’s say the average console game costs $55-$60 when you include tax. At this rate (with each level costing an average of $7.50), if COD:WAW:Z had 8 levels, it would cost you $60, the same price as Modern Warfare 2, a gaming classic with many more levels and one of the more robust multiplayer systems ever created. Just something to think about.

For the record, I am all for app prices going up. I know that it would be a drain on consumers wallets, but the quality of apps would certainly go up if developers could pump in an adequate amount of time and recourses and expect solid returns. While I never want to see a $60 app, I would love to see indie devs be able to charge $5 for apps that are currently going for 99 cents. Ok, I’ll get off my soap box.
