Death Coming best games of the week

It's not been the best week for games on the App Store. There are a few decent ones here and there, but nothing that's really going to make you throw down what you're doing and run to the nearest WiFi hotspot in order to download it. That's not to say everything is terrible, but there are plenty of just good games out this week.

Still, we've taken the time to round up the best of them. There's not quite something for everyone here, but I have a feeling that next week is going to be much better. Don't ask me how I know that, because I can't tell you. I'd definitely suggest coming back in seven days though, and saving your pennies if nothing on this list really captures your imagination.

Death Coming - download for iOS

What would you do if you suddenly became death's apprentice? Well you'd try and murder people with increasingly hilarious death traps in order to keep your new boss happy, right? That's the premise here, and while everything is controlled with taps and swipes, there's a lot of strategy in figuring out how to trigger the death trap puzzles at just the right time.

Blissful - download for iOS

It's not often that a puzzle game could be described as infuriating, but this is one of those times. You're either going to love or hate Blissful, there's really no in between. It's a mixture of a Rubik's Cube, sudoku, and a sliding block puzzler. And if you click with the game, you're going to find hours of fun here. If you don't, you'll probably smash your phone. Sorry.

Runventure - download for iOS

A one-finger platformer that does things a bit differently. Really it's a one thumb platformer. You control your sprinting hero with a bar along the bottom of the screen. Push it to run, release it to jump. It takes a while to get used to, but once you do you're going to be wondering why more devs haven't taken this route to mobile jumping.

Monster Chef - download for iOS

A bit of a strange one this. You're a chef. But you're also a monster harvester. And you don't seem to do any cooking. And there's a vertical city-builder thrown in there too. It looks amazing, and if strangely layered strategy games are you're think then you're going to lap up everything that the game has to offer.

Runestone Keeper - download for iOS

There are a few dungeon crawlers out this week, but this is probably the most polished of them. Clear unnerving mists away from a variety of different squares, revealing monsters, traps, and all manner of other things as you do. It's tricky, but in a pretty smart way. If you're into hiding underground and killing zombies you should definitely check it out.

Cobalt Dungeon - download for iOS

At the other end of the dungeon crawling spectrum we get this slightly minimalist affair. It's more of a puzzler than anything else, and sees you dancing around a series of enemies in order to attack them without getting killed. There's a lengthy tutorial, but once everything has been explained to you there's a massive world for you to explore and get murdered in.

.projekt - download for iOS

An understated and simple idea makes this puzzler one of the most interesting we've seen on the App Store for a long time. Essentially you're building shapes, but you need to consider two plains of the shadow that your shapes are going to cast. It's a really refreshing change of pace, and it's well worth checking out if you're looking for a change of pace.
