Bendy in Nightmare Run is the deserved winner of our game of the week award

Normally we play these announcements out a little but, acting like the vote was close, or that there was some tension among the official panel of judges in Strasbourg about the final decision. Not this week though, because this week we have what one might call a runaway winner.

And that winner is Bendy in Nightmare Run, a game that's all about running away from terrifying cartoon creations that are trying to eat you. And throwing anvils at them. Any game where you can throw an anvil at someone is good in our book.

But there's much more to the game than just chucking heavy metal objects at taxis that have come to life. A lot more, actually.

For starters the game shifts up the pattern of the auto-runner. There's a focus here that other games in the genre lack, and that makes your progression through the game feel less like a slog. You've got a goal, and a beast to kill, so you'd best get cracking.

The free to play is handled well here too, letting you slip in and out of the game without any hassle. That's a real boon in a world where some games are constantly bombarding you with ads to get more currency or try again.

And on top of it all the game looks amazing. It feels like you're playing a cartoon from the '50s. Albeit a super-violent cartoon that almost certainly never made it to air.
