If you’ve ever had the burning desire to play a game that’s based in a creepy dungeon and doesn’t have a set genre - instead straddling at least four (RPG, adventure, simulation and city builder) - boy oh boy, are you going to love text-based Mystic Castle…

Initially released for iOS platforms back in March this year, the title is now set for release through Google Play on May 19th, and we spoke to developers Locojoy Games to get the low-down:

Is the game suitable for everyone - if so how have you made sure that's the case?

"With all games, it’s hard to say whether everyone, everywhere will enjoy this type of game – but Mystic Castle has so many unique charms that it becomes instantly addictive.

As a simple to grasp game, despite its deep levels of progression and strategy, it doesn’t monopolise the time of players and doesn’t require constant log-ins or IAPs. In-game resources will replenish whilst you’re offline too.

One review of the title said: "[Mystic Castle is] A Dark Room but better! The resource gathering/building of A Dark Room mixed with an old school dungeon crawler."

What challenges did you face during development, and how did you overcome them?

"Initially, the biggest challenge was to ensure that we retained users. This has now been fine-tuned and we see a second-day return rate of 70%+ at present. This is due to our attention-to-detail when it comes to the user experience: we refine the process through the players’ eyes."

What exactly do the upcoming iOS updates add to the game?

"The update will see the reveal of two new areas within the game. Firstly, the Dark Rift, which is a maze-based location in which you must fight foes coming in from all angles to escape. The Eternal Arena, however, takes place within a trial tower, which you must ascend, upping your rewards and facing trickier enemies as you do."

What was your reasoning when it came to making this a paid app on iOS?

"With a resounding array of 5-star reviews on App Store, it felt justified with the quality of the game to make it a paid app. Reviews stated: "Excellent value for the price".

As an indie game, we’re hoping that the success from our reviews to date can flourish to put us on par with some of the higher priced titles."
