Hello to y’all amateur sleuths out there.
We had a heck of a time checking Contradiction out. How much? Check out our review

Contradiction is fun mystery thriller with Kickstarter roots that merges live acting with mobile gaming. The idea is to solve a mystery by catching suspects in a lie.

Here’s how to spot the contradictions and get to the bottom of Kate’s death.

Gathering Information

2015-01-29 06.08.50

  • Magnifying glasses are golden – As you roam around different environments, be on the lookout for the white magnifying glass that might appear at the bottom right; its presence means there’s something crucial in that area to check out and/or collect. Not collecting/researching an area when the magnifying glass appears can hold up progress down the line.
  • Ask every possible question – The general premise is to catch suspects lying based on the answers they give during questioning. So ask away! As the game progresses and more data is used to generate even more questions per character, the list gets pretty long. Make sure no question gets skipped over.
  • Roam, then roam some more. And even more – There are many places to visit, and you should get Jenks to revisit places often. New places open up, the environment changes, and new characters make an appearance in areas as he game goes on. Use found items when necessary, and act upon new information. Patience is the name of the game. Use the navigation map to keep track of places that need to be visited again (blue pins versus green).

Note taking app Beesy now supports the Livescribe 3 Smartpen. The new combo allows folks to manipulate data captured on/by the Livescribe 3 from within the Beesy task management app.

With the Livescribe 3 and Beesy, professionals can take notes with a real pen on paper and turn their handwritten notes into reusable digital text. To simplify organization, customers can create comments, tasks or drawings just by tapping short-cut buttons printed at the top of each page in their Livescribe notebooks. The Beesy app automatically turns those notes into professional meeting minutes, project tracking documents and organized task lists complete with assignments and due dates for team members.

We had an opportunity to review the well-regarded Livescribe 3 Smartpen last year. It’s available for $149.95 via the Livescribe store, and Beesy is available for $5.99 (with optional-in-app purchases, one of which is Livescribe add-on) on the App Store.

Star Wars: Commander Gets a Big New Update, Adds Time-Limited Campaign

Posted by on February 5th, 2015
+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Fans of Star Wars: Commander are in for some good news: Disney and Lucasfilm are updating the game with a time-limited campaign called “Secret Alliances.”

The new campaign brings a host of new units and features; per the press release:

Campaign Reward units include:

Universal
· Johhar Kessen Hero Unit: Former senator Kessen’s custom sniper blaster, “Karina,” deals extreme damage to soft targets. While he can out-range many static defenses, his ability to damage them is low.

Rebel
· A-Wing Starship Strike: The Rebel Alliance uses A-Wing starfighters to support ground forces. Their powerful weaponry employs an advanced targeting system, concentrating firepower to dispatch particle shields. (Requires Starship Command)

· HWK-290 Starship Strike: Originally manufactured without weapons, this HWK-290 freighter was outfitted to drop incendiary bombs. The bomb blast affects a moderate area, making it most effective against infantry, but also very capable for attacking enemy HQs.

Empire
· TIE Advanced Starship Strike: A newly developed advanced prototype of the TIE Starfighter line, these starships are equipped with a highly sophisticated target tracking system, making them extremely useful against shields. (Requires Starship Command)

· VT-49 Decimator Starship Strike: Receiving command of a VT-49 Decimator is considered an honor in the Imperial Navy. Used as a raiding vessel, this ship drops firebombs which burn a moderate area. It is most effective against infantry, but also very capable for attacking enemy HQs.

New Features:
· Contraband: A new currency called “Contraband” will be introduced with this build. Players will be able to unlock a new, powerful unit that can only be leveled up using this currency.

· Traps: Players will be able to place three new traps around their base as a defense mechanic. Traps will have to be ‘reloaded’ using currency once they have been used to defend a base in battle.

We had an opportunity to formally review Star Wars: Commander last year. It’s available for free (with optional in-app purchases) on the App Store now.

Want to know if we had fun playing make-believe? Check out our Playworld Superheroes review!

So, the current stock of established superheroes from Marvel and DC don’t do it for you? You have an idea for a custom superhero? Then PlayWorld Superheroes is for you. Here’s how to get your game going quickly.

Crafting

2015-01-29 15.28.08

  • Take time to be creative – Let your imagination do the walking. From the beginning the game underscores an appreciation for self-expression, and it helps to revel in this. From the template of characters, take the time to scroll through all the options because there are quite a few.
  • Make sure to explore – One element the game encourages is exploration. It makes this easy by using dialogue boxes and highlighting to help you along. When an item is found, it can generally be crafted. Again, creativity is the name of the game. There are scissors, crayons, and more, and the best advice is also the most fun advice: just go to town. Use the cut marks to guide the scissors, and be inventive with the crayons. Going all out is especially true of the symbol, because this design gets emblazoned within the game. Do yourself proud.
  • Feel free to rewind – It’s also good to know that crafted materials can be redesigned, so there’s no need to weep because of an errant crayon swoop.

Great news!

After a successful Kickstarter Pro Pinball: Timeshock!, an upcoming title from Barnstorm Games, will be arriving on the App Store later this week. That in itself is awesome.

Ahead of that, we are proud to announce that we have a new trailer for the game — exclusively on 148apps.com!

The game is based on the popular 90s game series Pro Pinball.

Barnstorm Development Chief Adrian Barritt mentions the nostalgia that made the redevelopment possible. “It’ll be great to have Timeshock! back in the hands of players again; the Kickstarter campaign has demonstrated that there is so much nostalgia for this title both from us and fans of the original Pro Pinball series of games,” he says. “We are bringing the definitive pinball simulation to a new generation of platforms and players, starting today with iOS. The Retina screens and tactile nature of the iPhone and iPad are such a perfect fit, the game has never been realized in such stunning clarity before.”

As noted, the game is due out this week. It will be available in two tiers, Standard ($2.99) and Deluxe ($6.99) on the App Store.

2k and Firaxis have formally announced an upcoming game: Sid Meier’s Starships.

The new game is part of the Sid Meier series, and specifically expands upon Civilization: Beyond Earth‘s science fiction universe. The game is described as a turn-based strategy game that makes the player the fleet commander ultimately in pursuit of peace.

Sid Meier (who serves as creative development chief at Firaxis) talks about experiences with regards to the new game. “When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth. What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?” he says. “My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration.”

There’s no word on pricing yet, but Sid Meier’s Starships is scheduled to drop in “early 2015.”

For fans of the evil adolescent comedy Mean Girls, this is great news: Mean Girls: The Game is set to be released on iOS.

Developed by the appropriately named So Much Drama Studios, the game is cheekily described as a “tiara defense” game; it’s all about maintaining the crew’s rep.

Mean-Girls-Mobile-Game-Announced

Designed as an easily accessible ‘tiara-defense’ game, Mean Girls finds the original Plastics at peace with their world, when a new upstart Plastics clique attempts to take control of North Shore High School by piecing together the broken Spring Fling Tiara. Players can select from eight of their favorite Mean Girls characters — Cady, Regina, Gretchen, Karen, Janis, Damian, Aaron, and Kevin, each with their own distinct boost abilities — and all the cliques from the cafeteria, to help defeat opponents and complete each level.

Additional Mean Girls game features include:

Location, Location, Location: Play through movie-inspired locations such as the North Shore High School Cafeteria, Classroom, Football Field, and the Basketball Court.
Power Ups: Collect hump day treats, Kalteen bars, peppermint foot cream, pieces of the tiara, and improve popularity to gain points and boost power ups.
Let It Out Honey: Burn your friends on Facebook with your high scores and let them have it in the Burn Book.

There’s no word on the exact time or price just yet, but we’re keeping an eye on this one.

Coffee Stain Studio’s Goat Simulator is on Sale for Limited Time

Posted by on January 15th, 2015
+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Goat Simulator, the insanely popular game from Coffee Stain, is getting a big discount – 60% off, to be specific. That brings the price down to $2.99 for a limited time.

Goat Simulator, as the name implies, is all about living life – as a goat. A very testy, destructive goat that’s determined to wreak as much havoc as possible on a village.

We had an opportunity to review Goat Simulator in all its weirdness last year. There isn’t any word as to how long the sale will last, so grab it while it’s hot. As noted, it’s on sale for $2.99 on the App Store.
