Capcom Mobile's 1942: First Strike doesn't quite do their arcade classic justice, especially with dodgy controls that are hard to calibrate. There are better top-down shooters out there.

Billed as "the first font editor exclusive for iPad," 2TTF's handy little app does as advertised: it lets you easily make a font from your own handwriting. It's a bit limited in its usefulness, it's still cheaper than similar online services.

This largely unsuccessful game just isn't imaginative enough to capitalize on its premise. Mischievous science experiments with monstrous looks need to do more than skate around and hit the puck.

Gameloft takes on the unenviable challenge of porting an entire console game to the iPhone. The result is a playable, though not perfect, console-quality experience that brings all the scope and action of the original, but suffers from complicated controls.

A clever little take on the zombie genre, putting you in the shoes of a hungry ghoul feasting on flesh. As you make friends (literally) and ingest people, you'll get a kick out of this game, though it will get repetitive after awhile.

Farmville finally makes it to the iPhone. This app is exactly the sort of tool Farmville fans need to keep tending their virtual plots while on the go. If you're not into Farmville on Facebook, however, you can give this app a pass.

Zombie Infection Review

While Zombie Infection rises only to the level of Resident Evil imitator, it does a bang-up job of it. With plenty of zombies to shoot and a fun B-movie vibe, it's the a great survival horror game for the iPhone.

Chillingo attempts to put a new spin on the zombie survival game with Zombie Wonderland by adding task management and tower defense elements. They only partially succeed; while there's some fun to be had in blasting away zombies, the game suffers from being short and repetitive.

While Light Bike 2 does a good job of mimicking a TRON light cycle battle, it doesn't build a strong enough game around that experience to encourage prolonged play. Network issues also plague the game.

Trainyard is a clever, casual puzzle game that challenges you to both plan routes and match colors. In an App Store glutted with Doodle Jump clones and match-three retreads, it offers a novel puzzle experience.
