App Description

The 20th app from the team behind Mr Thorne Does Phonics. After diversifying from phonics to grammar to maths, Mr Thorne is returning to phonics for his latest app. A simple app to be used as a tool by parents and teachers to help with word recognition using phonic decoding.

The app shows a series of flash cards for the child to blend the sounds together and read as a whole word. Pressing the megaphone will allow you to listen to Mr Thorne say the word; the user should then have a go of reading the word independently. The app will show 5 different words each time you select a set of cards and as a reward for good blending, you may see a little cameo from Geraldine the Giraffe, star of her own Youtube phonics videos.

Remember, this app is a tool for learning to read words using the phonics approach to reading.

There is a final set of flash cards for words that are tricky (was, said, people, is, etc) and these words are encouraged to be learnt by sight.
