App Description

Idea/Problem Statement
Blood Donation App is a sincere effort to address a critical social challenge. It aims to abridge the gap between number of blood donors and recipients. With the world population exploding, the gap between demand-supply of blood has been widening fast, of late. There is a critical lack of balance between supply and demand.
We often hear about people dying because they were not able to get enough of their blood type, on time. But, it is only when we ourselves face a similar emergency, we happen to realize the importance of ‘help reaching the right hands- on time’.
This expedient app offers a helping hand to people, who need blood and it equips them with the right information to save the lives of their loved ones.

Challenges & Facts
All countries need a regular supply of safe blood
1. Every two seconds, someone in the US needs blood
2. More than 44,000 blood donations are needed everyday
3. A total of 30 million transfusions of blood components take place each year in the US (2006).
4. Sickle cell disease affects more than 80,000 people in the US, 98% of whom are African American. Sickle Cell patients can require frequent blood transfusions throughout their lives
5. More than 1 million new people are diagnosed with cancer each year. Many of them will need blood, sometimes daily, during their chemotherapy treatment
6. A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood!

How it works?
The Blood Donation App helps people get right information about blood availability in their current location, at times, when they need it the most. Now, they don’t have to go running from pillar to post in search of the requisite blood group.
Based on your location, this application establishes a system to find your nearest blood bank with stock details, route map and the details of donor/s in your locality during emergency. The concept of a location based service is effective in bringing all stakeholders under one umbrella enabling ‘help reaching you on time’.
This expedient application demonstrates a promise to address the deficit of blood supply.
The interface is user-friendly, the filters on the top bar help to narrow down on blood request and donors available for a particular blood type.
