MaferJay ,

Awful but could still be made great.

Well, I looked around the web for any demo or review about this app and had no luck. Sure it's pretty darn pricey, especially for a simple editor but if you own an Evolver Desktop synth then you already know that this app could be a huge asset. The Evolver is a fantastic synth but the interface can be a tough nut to crack with all of the cryptic abbreviations one must memorize in order to program it effectively. So yeah it's expensive for an app, but I was happy to support the developers efforts if this thing was gonna help me get my head around my wonderful synth. I ponied up my $25.00.
Sadly, ( and I am not exaggerating ) I have yet to experience an app that is as clunky and and as laggy as this one. The controls are just awful and respond so poorly as to nearly be unusable. It almost feels like as if I had every app I own running while I was trying to use this and was maxing out the RAM on the ipad. Thing is, this is this only app I have running when I use it. The experience pretty much goes like this: press a function. Wait.......move a control. Wait.....close a field. Wait... Select another patch. Wait..... Save your work. Wait...
Now to be fair, the app does 'work' for the most part, but the experience at this stage is so poor it actually made me look forward to putting the app away and simply twisting the knobs the the synth itself. You can edit with it but you need a ton of patience waiting for the it to catch up after every single little adjustment you make.
Oddly enough, the controls in the Sequencer section operate as smooth a silk!?!?!?! This initially made me very happy but as soon as I went to use it I quickly realized that it is almost impossible to see the note for each step that you're selecting because the controls won't respond unless your finger is right on top of the displayed information.! (For the record I have small fingers.) Now just how the heck could a developer miss this?!? So again, pretty useless. This app could be made useful if they improve the lag and awful controls that are bogging this thing down but for now there just isn't a way I could in good conscience recommend this to anyone.. Should the developer go back and fix these issues I will be happy to update my review.
It's also worth mentioning that I am not someone who goes out of their way to put down the workmanship of others just for the sake of being contrary. Indeed, this is the first poor review I have ever given to any app I have purchased. As of right now I really feel quite 'had' at having purchased this so I would like to let others know what they're getting before they lay down their money.

(Ps: one other issue I forgot to mention is that it is really glitchy when send sysex to the synth. You pretty much have to send one bank at at time. If you select the option to send them all at once it simply selects one bank from the editor and sends the same bank to all four banks in the hardware.
Fun.)
