App Description

Two inspired film-making parents wanted to transform animal picture books into a ‘video book’, specially for the youngest children (toddlers and pre-schoolers). The idea was to introduce children to various animals in a fun and educational way. Here is the result!

-Through the use of two levels, the app is suitable for the youngest children, from the age when they can first touch the screen until about 5 years old. There is a very simple menu for toddlers, and something a bit more specific for pre-schoolers.
-The differentiation between age groups means that the app can be used for a long time. Whereas the very youngest children can enjoy recognition of familiar material, the older ones will find lots of new material to explore.
-There are extra facts about the animals for parents, so that they can help their child, can learn together, and can give their child new information.
-The app can therefore be explored together, or the child can try it out alone.
-The child learns about how European wild animals (such as the fox, swan, bat, honeybee, badger, deer, pine marten, barn owl, and beaver) go about their daily life by watching.
-Recognisable symbols and simple pictures encourage the child to do, to discover, and to watch: how big is the animal compared to a pre-schooler?, where does it live?, how does it move?, what does it eat?, what are it’s special characteristics?, and so on.
-There is no overload of information about too many animals, but an interesting selection. Very young children are often interested in looking lots of times at the same thing, and therefore getting to know the material thoroughly, whilst pre-schoolers have more desire to explore a subject in depth.
-The involvement and alertness of children is encouraged by requiring them to look and make choices (by tapping a picture). So as well as providing informative videos to watch, this app provides children with an interactive educational experience!

The team is working hard on the following new versions of this app: ‘Pets’, ‘Farm Animals’ and ‘Animals in the Garden’. Something to look forward to!
