Unlike most travel apps, this app was not compiled at a desk, written by a nameless researcher with information copied from Wikipedia and travel websites. This app was researched on the ground by me, Leif Pettersen, Moldova guidebook author and frequent visitor.
Moldova is Europe's least visited country (just 9,000 international visitors in 2011), making it one of the last true, off the beaten path destinations in Europe. Travelers seem to agree: Lonely Planet’s 2013 “Traveller’s Choice” survey voted Moldova the #2 “Off the Beaten Path” destination in the world.
The country’s amazingly tasty and inexpensive wine industry is what draws most visitors, but there’s far more on offer here, including cave monasteries, fortresses, intriguing cultural diversity, excellent value restaurants and nightlife that will challenge the heartiest of revelers.
This app covers Moldova's primary tourism destinations, namely Chisinau, Transdniestr, Orheiul Vechi, Soroca and various wine tasting destinations and tours. It includes entries on all of Moldova's top attractions, a wide range of accommodations options, restaurants, nightlife, transport information, city introductions, history, cultural trivia and much more all gleaned from my seven years of traveling and researching the country for guidebooks.

Leif Pettersen, a freelance travel writer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a Lonely Planet author with expertise in Romania, Moldova and Tuscany. His writing appears in over two dozen books and print publications as well as numerous online outlets. He is also the author of Sutro's Florence Explorer and Romania Traveler's Guide apps for iPhone and Android.
Leif has visited every notable tourism site in Moldova on a number of occasions during his seven year tenure as Lonely Planet's Moldova expert and is, as such, considered a leading resource on independent travel in the country.
Leif has visited 51 countries, loves chocolate, hates pickles, types with exactly four fingers, and can escape from a straitjacket. He has not vomited since 1993, making him a consummate travel journalist and excellent party guest.
