App Description
This application, available in French, English, Dutch and German, offers a 28-step trail to learn all about the philosopher’s personal life in the town where he was born: family life, childhood homes, Jesuits’ college, Diderot and the people of Langres, Langres in the 18th century, the Encyclopédie, the House of the Enlightenment, the Fontaine de la Grenouille…
Diderot would leave Langres at the age of 15 and would only return five times. However, his character was formed by his native land, to which he would remain attached all his life, as shown by the words he wrote to his friend Sophie Volland: “I am a man of my country, myself.”
Application highlights: georeferencing, audio commentaries, text.
