The Word Ladder Game

The Word Ladder Game is a fun app for all ages. The object of the game is to build a ladder from one word to another. Each word on the ladder is different from the word before it by one letter. For example, you can get from THIS to THAT in four steps:

THIS
THIN
THAN
THAT

Whether you’re a beginning reader, a second language learner, a kid or an adult, this game is fun and challenging. Spelling, phonics, vocabulary and logic skills are all enhanced by playing the Word Ladder Game. For children, it’s great practice for thinking, spelling, and reading skills. For adults, it’s a fun way to get lost in an absorbing puzzle when you need a quick break from your daily routine.

The app presents a beginning and ending word. You move letter tiles to form a new word that differs by one letter. The words scroll up and down so that you can see all the words on the ladder. An eraser allows you to go back and make changes. The goal is to change the first word to the last word using the fewest steps possible. A built-in dictionary checks to verify that your entry is a valid word

Poorly made

This app was confusing to use, poorly made, and didn't explain when you had finished the puzzle.

Unlike what it says, it does not tell you when a word is in the dictionary, and it certainly does not tell you if you have completed the puzzle in the least amount of steps possible.

And the question mark icon just moves you on to the next puzzle and does not give a hint or help as a question mark would suggest.

All in all, waste of a dollar.

Developer Response ,

The new version of this app addresses your concerns and is a free upgrade. The question mark icon was replaced by a pair of dice to indicate that a random puzzle is selected. An icon that is just the letter 'I' is used to designate 'info'. In the new version, once a puzzle is completed the steps used to get to the solution are shown. Thank you for your suggestions.

Don't bother

Very poorly designed. It does not tell you if you got it right. Not much explination. Needs a dictionary with it to tell if you created a correct word. Answer page would be nice. Bought this app for my 10 yr old son but it is not worth the agrivation to figure out if he got the answers right.

Developer Response ,

Try the new version it is a complete revision and absolutely free to download. There are many ways to solve each puzzle and therefore we do not provide a solution that would spoil the fun. The new version shows the strategy a player has used so solve the puzzle so if as a parent you want to see if your son solved the puzzle, he can show you how he did it.
