App Description

The word “Antebellum”, (i.e. the period before a war) most aptly describes the history of the United States from 1820 to 1855. Users will understand this incendiary period in American history as they explore the numerous and varied resources in our narrated chronicle.

Antebellum: America 1820-1855 contains:

• 25 multimedia presentations on the major events that fanned the flames that ignited the Civil War.

• 70 primary source documents.
• Special section on the Mexican-American War

• Special section on the "Underground Railroad"– including a new interactive simulation exercise that directs users through the journey and fateful decision tree set before a runaway slave.

• Biographies of the leading Americans

• Sections that highlight the Arts, the Economy, and the People's of the United States during the period.

• Overviews of each election that took place during the period as well information on all the Presidents and First Ladies of the period.

This app also includes two quizzes, whose results can be e-mailed to teachers.

Finally, users can print and/or e-mail all of the program's content resources– including over 100 primary source documents, plus dozens of photos and paintings.
