DA Design & Architecture 9 presents architecture and design in the texts written by our authors and in quality images, focusing on projects and design firms.
Even if we certainly haven't covered all the horizons that the “technical arts” define and present us with, in this issue we tried to show what we have in mind when we think of design and architecture, going beyond our time, beyond the “simple” future, speaking of creations based on positive and fundamental ideas we wish were valid for ever.
Therefore we discussed materials (namely marble in the interview with designer Raffaello Galiotto), interior design (with two redevelopment projects, as interior design should head in this direction: an eco-friendly house in Saint-Hilaire-du-Rosier in France by L’Autre Fabrique Architectures and a privately-owned luxury villa by Studio C+L), as well as design experienced as a “place” where people meet, a means to communicate and... enjoy good food.
As for architecture, there is the project for the Jansen Campus in Switzerland by Davide Macullo Architects for the importance of the architect's vision in creating shapes and the Montalto di Castro theatre by MDU Architetti, because history and territory represent our future.
We couldn't leave out town planning in relation to cultural life, which embellish and will need to embellish our towns and lives: this is the purpose of the project for the Docks in Marseille, 2013 European capital of culture, by 5+1AA.
Efficient lighting and an approach that takes the landscape into account are the two pieces we chose to complete the vision, which is our vision – and therefore a relative one – of architecture and design useful for ever.
