The result: while you’ve been gearing up to get back into those hiking boots, we’ve been busy behind the scenes preparing many new app features, benefits and improvements to the Georgia Fishing, Hunting & Wildlife Guide Pocket Ranger® app just in time for spring.

In addition to the app’s standard features – GPS mapping, trail tracking and recording, photo waypoints, park maps and information, safety alerts, weather forecasts, and more – check out the newly added benefits you’ll enjoy when you download this latest update to your Pocket Ranger® app, designed to make your outings to the state parks even more memorable this season:

• The app is now optimized for iPhone 5 screen size.
• GPS Landscape Viewing means the app's GPS mapping is now viewable in both horizontal and vertical formatting, giving iPad and Tablet users a more optimized experience.
• The Places Near Me feature now has improved GPS loading time.
• A GPS Accuracy and Distance Indicator have been added to GPS map to further aid in navigating.

Most excitingly, the app now includes a new GeoChallenge section! GeoChallenges offer a fun, eco-conscious way to explore the parks, using the apps’ advanced GPS features to guide you through a series of outdoor sites and destinations, creating the ultimate virtual tour. The prize lies in uncovering the intrinsic beauty of parks, historic landmarks, forests and beyond, earning points along the way to redeem toward big rewards.

As fantastic as these new enhancements are, the best may still be yet to come. We’ve got our collective nose to the grindstone preparing to roll out a whole new look and design – not to mention advanced explore features - with the next generation of the Pocket Ranger® app.

The Official Georgia Fishing, Hunting & Wildlife Guide was created in a collaborative effort between the Georgia Department of Natural Resources – Wildlife Resource Division and ParksByNature Network™.

Gain access to useful information in the palm of your hand. This innovative outdoor guide, powered by Pocket Ranger® technology, brings the wilderness to your fingertips and helps you plan the perfect adventure in the great outdoors. You will be able to locate Georgia’s fishing, hunting and wilderness sites and gain immediate access to on-the-spot species profiles, rules and regulations, and important permits and licensing details.

Advanced GPS technology enhances any trek through the woods, allowing you to record trails and use waypoints and photo waypoints to mark traps and keep track of wildlife sightings. With the app’s “Nearest Me” feature, uncover which wildlife resource management areas or public fishing areas are closest to you, so you can embark on your adventure right away. With the GA Fishing, Hunting & Wildlife Guide in your pocket, you’ll be able to spend more time hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing and less time trying to recall details from memory.
