App Description

The idea of making an App on Roman terraces originated from the fact that no other city in the world boasts such an artistic heritage as the Italian capital. Besides, its mild climate makes it possible to enjoy all these terraces for many months of the year.

With this in mind, we tried to find the most attractive places, those with breathtaking panoramas and postcard-like views, and many turned out to be hotel terraces open to non-hotel guests. But we did not stop there. We also wanted to indicate some places that are not actually terraces, but courtyards, cloistered gardens and bistrots, and their common feature is that they are all places where you can have something to eat or drink outdoors.

The words “eat or drink” explain the “gourmet” in the title: in making our selection, we checked to see that each of these terraces had at least some kind of gastronomic offer, and you will find evidence of this in each entry. There are obviously places where the food is the main attraction, and others where you might find quicker and simpler catering in various moments of the day. To give our readers an idea of the schedules and costs of the various offerings, we have created a few clear symbols next to the opening hours and price ranges. Besides, we have indicated means of public transportation to reach these addresses, and mentioned nearby shops or places that are also worth a visit.

This guidebook is bilingual and intended for both Romans and visitors, as some of the places listed are really unusual and unknown even to the locals. We have also placed a lot of importance on the photographs, that are meant to be visual stimuli together with the texts, to tempt readers to go and experience these environments personally.

We chose more of 50 places, from the most fashionable ones to others that are more hidden, and we feel that we have given a sufficiently vast overview of this niche. It was not easy, as we visited each and every one of them to carefully verify their offerings, but in the end, what started off like demanding work, transformed itself day after day into a unique opportunity to get to know the Eternal City better and in a new light!
