App Description

*** Reduced in price to mark the 30th anniversary month of Black Tiger's release in August 1982.

Finally on the map with their scorching first album for A&M (Earthshaker was their third overall), California’s Y&T were ready to strike with their fourth record, 1982’s mighty Black Tiger. This app marks the 30th anniversary year of Black Tiger's release by telling the story of the making of the album – in singer and lead guitarist Dave Meniketti’s own words.

The Y&T Black Tiger app stems from an as-yet-unpublished Ye Olde Metal “essay” or “chapter,” Ye Olde Metal being a series of five books thus far, examining albums from 1968 through 1978, in detailed, one-per-chapter format.

The app’s author is Martin Popoff, who has penned 36 books on hard rock, heavy metal, classic rock and record collecting. For the app’s text, Popoff draws on three recorded interviews he did with Meniketti – one in 2002 and two in 2007. Popoff also penned a new review of Black Tiger for this app, and an essay in which he argues that Y&T were a kick-ass NWOBHM band who, through no fault of their own, happened to be from San Francisco. Martin currently resides in Toronto and can be reached through [email protected] or http://www.martinpopoff.com

The app includes extensive audio of Meniketti describing how Black Tiger was recorded (at Ridge Farm studio in England) – including his comments on the album’s tracks and on touring with AC/DC in 1982.

The app is enriched by lots of images from 1982 – including photos of the Black Tiger recording sessions from Meniketti’s personal collection.

This app features the following pages:
• Recording the album
• Album tracks, plus a page for each individual track
• Album review – “Ready to Strike!”
• Honourary NWOBHMetallers
• Album discography
• About the author – Martin Popoff
• Links.

The app’s intro video of Dave Meniketti signing a Black Tiger CD cover will play only if the app has been closed in the background. To close the app in the background, follow these steps:

1. From the Home screen, double-click the Home button to display recently used apps.
2. Tap and hold the Black Tiger app.
3. When it starts to jiggle, tap the red circle to close the app.
4. Double-click the Home button, then open the app again to play the intro video.

The Black Tiger app is a universal app that is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. The app has layouts that have been specifically optimised for iPhone and for iPad.

Keep an eye out for future apps in the Ye Olde Metal series.
