STORIES OVERVIEW:
Journey to the West is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. It is a mythological novel based on many centuries of popular tradition. Journey to the West 1 is the story collection of Journey to the West with Pictures series. There are five stories: The Birth of Monkey King, Dragon Temple Treasures, Havoc in Heaven, Carrying the Five-Point Mountain, and WuKong and XuanZang.

★The Birth of Monkey King : There was a beautiful mountain known as Flower-fruit Mountain with a unique celestial stone. One day, the celestial stone cracked and a stone monkey jumped out! Bodhi gave a name to him-Sun Wukong and Wukong studied basic skills from Bodhi very hard for 7 years.

★Dragon Temple Treasures: Su Wukong hadn’t found a desirable weapon for himself, so he paid a visit to the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea and asked him for a weapon. Finally, he got the best weapon—Golden Wishing Cudgel with Rings.

★Havoc in Heaven: The God of the North Star suggested the Celestial Emperor that Wukong be given a minor post in Heaven, so that he can be kept under close supervision. After a while, Wukong found him been tricked and wreaked havoc in Peach Garden.

★Carrying the Five-Point Mountain: In order to subdue Wukong, the Celestial Emperor sent for the Supreme Buddha for help. The Supreme Buddha turned his palm downwards and changed his five fingers into the Mountain of Five Elements. He piled the mountain on top of the Monkey.

★WuKong and XuanZang: The monk, named Xuan Zang, was on his way to the West. Xuan Zang took Wukong as his apprentice and gave him a new name—Xing Zhe. Then, Wukong accompanied him on his way to the West.
