App Description

The ‘BARWISE’ App provides a GPS powered, location-based guide informing you of the nearest hangouts, bars, pubs clubs and restaurants and takeaways at the touch of an iPhone button. By using a unique mash-up of live data Barwise gives you:

- The nearest places to drink, dance, eat or hangout in the evening
- How busy it is there
- Which friends have checked in nearby via Facebook or Foursquare
- Reviews and ratings of venues
- Directions
- Tip-offs for promotional events near to you

If you are of legal drinking age (over 18 in the UK, over 21 in the US) get started with Barwise by verifying your age then simply log in using your Facebook or Foursquare account.

SOCIAL SNAPSHOT
Using GPS technology Barwise’s snapshot gives you a live lowdown on what is going on in your current location, showing which venues are nearest and how busy they are from check-ins. The pin’s colours act like a social thermometer showing a venue’s busyness from Yellow (Quiet) through to Orange (Sociable) and Red (Busy). Add your own rating when you get to the bar.

WHERE NEXT?
For a bit of inspiration click the ‘Where Next’ button which supplies you with three suggestions of where to go to next. To get a fresh set of options just move the map. Our suggestions are tailored to reflect the time of day and number of checkins.

FRIENDS
Check to see which of your friends are nearby, by clicking FRIENDS, where you can see where people you know have checked in, for up to three hours back.

SEARCH
To check out an area before you go out click ‘Search’ or move the map to get Barwise recommendations, reviews and direction. Never be clueless of where to go again whether it’s a planned night out or an evening of whimsy wherever you are.

SPECIAL EVENTS
To be in the know about special or promotional events look out for Green Pins that will tell you when and where, complete with directions.

Barwise was tested with a New York and London based crowd. This means recommendations will be more varied in those cities but as the more people use BARWISE the more extensive its reach will be across the US and UK.
