App Description

Museum Planet presents a comprehensive narrated, digital photo tour of the Eldridge Street Synagogue before restoration.

The congregation was founded in the 1850's by Jewish immigrants from Russia, Romania and Poland. This was the first Eastern European Orthodox Jewish Congregation in America and it is the first synagogue built by Askenazi Jews in New York. It is a sacred and historic place. See it unchanged, as it was since it was built. Eldridge St. is the history of the Lower East Side.

You can stop and start the tour; jump around in it; stop it to read the often extensive text, and enlarge all the photos with a ‘swoosh’ of your fingers.

The tour is better than a large and well-researched book. Museum Planet takes you there: 16 photographs, 3.1 minutes of audio and 1,488 words, plus biographies.
