What's New
New version revamped for iPhone! What's New in 2.0:
- Updated databank from Starfleet, including over 170 new entries. Example entries include: Gorgan (possibly the last known inhabitant of the planet Triacus), the EMH Mark II (now with a new personality profile and hair!), and General K'Vagh (the Klingon officer who's medical program ultimately resulted in the "smooth-forehead" Klingons of Kirk's time). Additionally, many existing entries have enhanced data.
- Siri voice recognition has been integrated for searching. (Only available on iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5.)
- Messages from Starfleet Command. The main PADD screen now has a button marked MESSAGES that shows communiqués from Starfleet, including updates for each new databank entry. Starfleet Command can send updates via subspace, and they will appear on the MESSAGES screen.
- Subspace "push notifications". When Starfleet has a new update or wants to let you know about enhancements to the PADD databank, these messages will appear on your PADD whether the PADD is running or not. (Be sure to accept the Push Notifications permission warning that comes up upon first start.)
- Full screen photo viewing of databank images. Simply tap on an image, and the image will fill the PADD's screen. Please note, due to the low resolution recording technology of pre-holographic historical data, some images will appear grainy and pixelated.
- Live updating of databank content. New entries and updated entries will appear automatically.
- Enhancements for terrestrial data feeds from Facebook and Twitter.
- Compatible with iOS 6.
- Under 50 megaquads of data for initial download stream, allowing the PADD software to be installed over terrestrial wireless channels. (Using the lingo of 21st century Earth, you can now install over a 3G, 4G, or LTE connection, without requiring WiFi.)
Some users have asked why sounds won't always play. This is because the app pays attention to your "mute" switch and the volume on your device. Also, if you have configured the "mute" switch to lock the rotation of your screen, you may "mute" the device in the following manner: Double-press the device's home button and swipe to the right until you see the visual "mute" button on the screen.
