More people talk about the potential that is waiting to be unleashed in downtown Staten Island. Being just a ferry ride away from the gigantic cultural engine that is Manhattan, it’s really incredible that it hasn’t happened already. Second Saturdays in Staten Island is the harbinger of change. The art walk is based on a time worn tradition that has revolutionized neighborhoods, boroughs and entire cities across the country. It is a simple solution to the lack of patronage for the arts, tourism and the connectivity of our various creative clusters on Staten Island. Second Saturdays is a cross promotion for artists and for our borough, and the exposure it generates creates a healthy competition which demands higher standards in the art that we present to the public.
