This App provides a list of events and attractions for the 2015 Heritage Open Days for Tyne and Wear in North East England.
With nearly 200 events and attractions over four days, it is often difficult to plan an itenerary. This App provides a wide variety of ways of searching.
Users can search for attraction by Day: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Users can search for attraction by Type: Walk, Tour, Talk, Art, Building
Users can search for attraction by Area; Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside
Heritage Open Days are England's biggest heritage festival involving 40,000 volunteers. The events celebrates England's fantastic history, architecture and culture; offering people the chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences - all of which are FREE to explore.
Every year, on four days in September, the bunting is unfurled and buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors. It is a once-a-year chance to discover the often hidden or forgotten gems on our doorsteps and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities that bring local history and culture to life.
2014 was the 20th anniversary of HODS in England and as part of the celebrations awards were presented to groups and individuals who make the event so successful, and the Heritage Open Days in Tyne and Wear Steering Group received a ‘Star Organisers’ award! The award acknowledges that the local event has established excellent local event coordination and runs effective promotional campaigns, which capitalise on the national branding.
