App Description

Tyne and Wear Metro provides a wonderful platform for exploring North East England. This app encourages users to get more out of their journey whether as commute or a leisure trip.

Many of the regions most interesting self guided walks, start and finish at Metro Stations; the University Art Walk starts and finishes at Haymarket Metro; the Grainger Town Art Trail starts at Central Station and finishes at the Monument.

For those wanting a breath of fresh air, there are many beautiful coastal walks, some available as pamphlets (PDFs) others by following information panels. The North Shields Heritage walk consists of 17 heritage panels which explain the history of this historic fishing port, the walk starts at North Shields Metro and finishes at the Ferry Landing. The North Tyneside Coastal trail can be started at any one of four coastal metro stations.

Tyne and Wear Metro has funded an extensive program of innovative art on Metro. This unique collection of 38 pieces of permanent Art has been built up over 30 years. The App covers many of the works.

Many Metro stations are converted railway stations which host events, retail outlets and historic monuments. The App covers these stations and points of interest which lie in close proximity to them.

The App features a twitter stream which draws the users attention to things to do and see on a daily basis
