+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Last month, Platinum Games, the developers behind celebrated games like Nier: Automata, Bayonetta, and Vanquish announced they were going to make a mobile game called World of Demons. While the trailer didn't show a whole lot of gameplay, it seemed to promise some super stylish character action-style gameplay.

In the time since the game's been announced, World of Demons actually entered soft launch in select regions, which has allowed us to get some hands-on impressions of the game. If you want to know what the game is like, check out the video above for some unedited early gameplay, and look below some key take-aways:

Posted by Harry Slater on June 22nd, 2018

You know how sometimes it's a struggle to find games to stuck on this list? Well this week the opposite is true. I've had to be ruthless with my selection, cutting away the games that didn't score highly enough when we reviewed them. Even with that, I think this is the biggest list we've had in a good long while.

As usual there are review and download links to make your browsing as easy as possible. And if you've got your own recommendations, make sure you add them to the comments at the bottom of the article. I expect you're going to have loads.

Knights Chronicle is a mess of esoteric free-to-play systems that somehow manages to be a fun and satisfying rpg. In order to have said fun though, there's quite a few things you need to understand that the game itself isn't very good at doing, like at all. Luckily, we here at 148Apps have been digging deep into the game and figuring out exactly what you should know to get started having a blast with Knights Chronicle:

What does Pokemon GO have to do to still be the king of mobile AR games in two years time?

Our rating: starstarhalfstarblankstarblankstar :: POCKET MONSTER :: Read Review »

It's almost two years since Pokemon GO went out and the world went crazy for it. I still remember watching groups of players stumbling around the harbour near where I live to collect some rare water-based monsters. That was always the wonderful thing about Pokemon GO, it brings people together.

And with the new updates announced recently, that appears to be something that Niantic understands. But the upcoming anniversary has got me thinking - what does the game need to do to keep going strong for another two years?

That's what we're going to think about in this article. But feel free to share your own suggestions, we'd love to hear what could keep you playing, or start you playing, the game that defined AR on mobile.

New Star Soccer Manager could well be the midcore soccer sim that you've been waiting for

Posted by Harry Slater on June 18th, 2018

I'm eight years into my soccer management career. There have been dizzying highs (two cup wins, back to back promotions, last second winners) and there have been shocking lows (a season where I was one game away from relegation, and an ongoing battle with the board to prove I'm worthy of the big leagues), but I've loved every single second. And that's what New Star Soccer Manager does, it makes every second count.

The game is currently in soft launch around the world, and I've been playing it for a couple of weeks. And when I say playing, I mean playing religiously. I've played until my eyes hurt, until my fully charged battery has died, I've charged it up, and it's died again. So the compulsion is definitely there, but even in this pre-release stage, there's a lot more to the game than that.

Well, if this week's new releases were a little underwhelming, it's fair to say that the current crop of sales on the App Store is following a similar pattern. But that's not going to stop us from rounding up the very best games for iPhone and iPad that are going cheaper than usual at the moment.

And while we say it isn't the best crop, one of the games on the list is acknowledged by many to be the finest experience you can get on mobile, so it's not all doom and gloom. And there are a few other decent games too. So settle in and let's get this show somewhere close to the road.

Well would you look at that, it's Thursday again. And that means it's time for us to roundup the best games that have come out for iOS over the past seven days. And, I'll be honest with you, it's not the most impressive week we've ever seen. But, there are a few gems among the E3-avoiding derth.

There's an impressive port of a console game, an interesting use of AI, and a puzzler that's actually all about testing your reactions. There's loads more too, and I've stuck in download links so you can grab whichever of them tickles your fancy.

The best mobile "forever games"

Posted by Campbell Bird on June 14th, 2018

The idea of the “forever game” is a compelling one in general, but especially so on mobile. Being able to fire up the same game over and over again on your phone or tablet and be treated to new experiences and things to do each time is close to—if not the pinnacle—of mobile gaming. So, without further ado, see below for some of the best forever games on mobile:

Motorsport Manager Mobile 2

What is it?

This management game puts you in control of a Formula 1-style racing franchise. You manage almost everything involved in this process, including the drivers you hire, the sponsorship deals you take, the R&D of your cars, and even when drivers should take a pit stop mid-race.

What makes it a forever game?

The beauty of Motorsport Manager Mobile 2 is that it contains just enough variables to ensure the racing landscape is always changing. Even if you’re many years deep into the game’s career mode, you have to contend with different drivers, unexpected financial predicaments, and, of course, all of the other race teams that are trying to beat you.

Who’s it for?

Anyone who like management sims. Even if you aren’t into racing, Motorsport Manager 2 has a great set of mechanics under its hood that almost guarantees you’ll be playing it for a long time.

Every interesting mobile game announced at E3 2018

Posted by Harry Slater on June 13th, 2018

Gears POP! image

It's E3 season, which means it's the time of year that mobile games get basically ignored in favor of super-budget AAA titles and people screaming out reactions to things they're going to be disappointed in when they actually come out in a few months time.

That said, there have been a few interesting looking iOS games announced over the past couple of days, so we thought it was a good idea to round them up to give you a flavor of what you might be playing in the next few months on your phones. Or, in some cases, what you'll probably be ignoring.

BlazeFury guide - How to wrap your mind around this odd shmup

Posted by Campbell Bird on June 12th, 2018

BlazeFury is a unique take on the shmup genre, so it’s pretty easy to be confused about how you should play it. Fear not though, dear reader. These tips below will make you a dogfighting champion in no time.

Missiles are the best

The best way to start progressing quickly in BlazeFury is to invest in the right weapons. Since enemies get harder and harder, and there’s no real way to fight back without upgrading your own arsenal, you want to be sure you’re making the best investments possible.

From my experience, the missiles are the best weapon for you to unlock and continuously upgrade. Not only do they pack a punch against enemies, but they also do a great deal of splash damage, which can help you take down enemies that you aren’t even targeting.

Is a new Game of Thrones game likely to come out for mobile?

Posted by Harry Slater on June 11th, 2018

It's a question you might have asked yourself a few times. Why isn't there a brilliant Game of Thrones game for mobile? After all, it's one of the biggest pop-culture phenomena of recent times, not just commercially but critically.

So how come we've only got three GoT games on the App Store, and how come only one of them could even be called “pretty good”? Well, that's the question we're going to be asking in this here article. Mainly because I'm re-watching Game of Thrones and I've been wondering it myself.
