Tips and tricks to get a higher score in Snow Roll

Posted by Jessica Famularo on May 29th, 2016

Snow Roll is a devilish endless runner very much in the vein of Flappy Bird. It revels in its dastardly level of difficulty, and doesn’t really care how angry you get at it as it knows you’ll keep coming back for more.

You may be a sucker for punishment, but you don’t have to make things needlessly difficult. Follow these tips to take the edge off!

Avoid playing too many games back to back

Snow Roll doesn’t have any timers, meaning you can play as much of it as you can stand. However, your snowballs from previous games stay on the field, adding an increasing number of unnecessary obstacles the more times you die in a row.

This really amps up the difficulty, which is not something you need in a game like this. Take a break to let your failed snow balls melt before giving it another shot.

Keep your movements short and steady

Even the smallest mistake can send your little penguin sailing into a tree. Be sure to use short taps, and keep your ball rolling in straight, slight movements. Slow and steady wins the race, after all.

Use both hands

Each new game creates a fresh, randomly generated course so it’s impossible to memorise where all of the obstacles are.

To better adapt to your ever-changing surroundings, use both fingers to control your snow ball. This will give you a better response time, in turn keeping you alive longer so you can really rack up that score.

Snow Roll can be punishing, but these tactics should help your little penguin survive for longer. This is a game that requires a good deal of patience, and some practice doesn’t hurt either.

Stick with it and you’ll move on from rolling in snow drifts to rolling in coins sooner than you think.

How to win big in Slots Deluxe

Posted by Ric Cowley on May 28th, 2016

Cheating while gambling is illegal and morally wrong, and in some parts of the world it leads to men with names like Vinnie "Six Knuckles" Manchenzo beating you to a pulp in a dark alley.

Of course, none of this will happen on your phone - especially in the comfort of a game like Slots Deluxe. Although you can't really cheat either.

But we still have some words of advice to make sure you don't leave the machine empty handed.

Use the auto-play

Unless you're a big fan of tapping bright green buttons (and who isn't?) then you'll want to just hold the button down and leave the game running.

You'll still get all the rewards for playing, and the computer keeps the spins going faster than you can, so you'll be rolling in the money in no time.

Just be sure to keep an eye on the screen - the game has a habit of pausing the action after you level up or something big happens, and you'll need to come back and unpause it yourself.

Enter tournaments

Be the first one to join a tournament, and you're in with a pretty good chance of taking away the jackpot as more people pile in to take you on.

You'll still win money as you play, and if enough people join you can get a pretty healthy return on your investment.

Try new things

Don't just sit in one type of slot machine and stay there. There's a world of others out there, and each have their own little quirks that can help you out.

Unless you're in the middle of an objective or tournament, jump into a new slot every time you level up. You never know, it might work out even better for you.

How to take over the world in Dictator 2

Posted by Ric Cowley on May 28th, 2016

Running a country isn't easy - especially when you're a dictator who wants to take over the world and crush everyone in your path while you do it.

That's exactly what you'll be doing in Dictator 2, except you're running multiple countries, and for some reason you've decided to avoid seeking counsel on every matter.

Well, while we can't make every decision in life for you, we can offer some guidance in the form of tips to help you go from El Gato to El Presidente.

Keep your friends close

To get access to the more powerful cards in a faction's deck, you need to build up a good relationship with them by making decisions that will make them happy.

So if there's a card you really want, forget trying to appease any of the other factions and just focus on the one you want to buddy up with.

You might have to annoy another faction to do so, but you can spend some time doing damage control after you've got what you want.

Say the right thing

One thing that seems to be pretty consistent in Dictator 2 is that the factions like straightforward responses, and aren't particularly interested in outlandish behaviour.

Do the police force really want a parade in their honour with golden violins? No, probably not. Think logically, be direct, and you'll find yourself scoring points with the right people more often than not.

Brute force it

You can only hold a limited number of cards in your deck, and there's very little strategy involved in battles.

So kit yourself out with the cards that have the highest attack power, and that can attack twice in a turn, and go for the enemy dictator. Nine times out of ten you'll win without even engaging another card.

Have you taken over the world yet? Got some tips for us? Let us know in the comments below!

Tips and tricks to get a higher score in Tank.io

Posted by Campbell Bird on May 27th, 2016

Tank.iois - you guessed it! - another multiplayer arena battler likeAgar.io and Slither.io. It does differentiate itself by putting you in a tiny tank though, so it's not exactly the same.

To help you get that all-important high score, we've got a few tips and tricks for you.

Start conservatively

When you're just a tiny little tank, you can't really do much against other players. Don't try to pick fights. You'll likely lose.

Instead, you should try to take down the random geometric objects floating around on the map to earn some experience. If you see any tanks early on, just run.

Upgrade guns first

Upgrade your guns before anything else as that will force people to back off, since you can delete them a lot faster.

Upgrading guns also allows you to take down the geometric objects floating around the map faster, which will, in turn, help you level up faster.

Spread gun is king

You can modify your turret when you hit level 10, and then again at 25.

For your first upgrade, we recommend getting the twin front-facing cannons since you'll then dish out twice the firepower. Then, for the second, we recommend the spread gun because it's incredibly hard for opponents to dodge your shots while strafing around them.

Go on the hunt

If you survive long enough to get the spread gun, you'll likely be around the top of the leaderboard. From here, you should be capable of hunting anyone else on that same leaderboard.

Once you've taken out enough of these players, you'll be the top player, and the easiest way to keep it that way is to wander the map destroying every tank you see, especially if they're just below you on the leaderboard.

If you just hang out in one spot, it's always possible that some other tank could be grinding out enough experience to challenge you. Don't let that happen.

How to unlock characters in One Tap Tennis

Posted by Campbell Bird on May 27th, 2016

As the title suggests, One Tap Tennis requires only a single tap to play its particular brand of tennis, and rewards you with a ton of unlockable characters if you perform well.

Fortunately for you, we at 148Apps have got a few tips and tricks to help get you up to speed.

Focus on the line

Don't focus on the ball. The perspective makes it really hard to accurately judge where it is, so you're likely to miss your shots.

Instead, focus on that useful little line that scrolls down the screen with the ball. It's a lot more reliable.

Get as many perfect shots as possible

To get a perfect shot you have to time your tap to perfection. Doing this will grant you a bonus that allows you to defeat opponents faster.

Also, you can only unlock certain characters by getting a set number of perfect shots. So try to rack up as many as possible.

When in doubt, play World Ranking Matches

Once you unlock the ability to compete on the leaderboards, you should start your play session there. Not only does that mode grant some bonus characters, but it also serves as good practice for the single player campaign.

The World Ranking Match mode moves so quickly that single player ends up feeling easier as a result. So, if you're ever feel like progress is stalling in single player, popping out to train yourself up on some World Ranking Matches should help a lot.

Grab it now: Game Craft’s Legend of War drops online

Posted by 148Apps Staff on May 27th, 2016

The real time strategy game is now available for you to sink your teeth into, through the App Store and Google Play. Combining elements of skill, strategy and empire building, Legend of War is a real gamers’ game.

We got the low-down from the developers about the release:

Is the game suitable for everyone - if so, how have you made sure that's the case?

"Our target for this title is mid-to-hardcore gamer. With the implementation of strategy and skill combined together, the more casual gamers mightn’t be able to immerse themselves."

What challenges did you face during development, and how did you overcome them?

"The biggest challenge was getting a lot of animated characters on the screen while preserving a decent frame rate. We overcame this by combining all of the meshes into a single mesh and animating it as a whole. Another complex aspect was the A.I.: we wanted an A.I. that acted like a human player and couldn't be easily fooled by using simple techniques. For example if you try to lure a legion out of its defensive position, the A.I. will be smart enough to not go on a wild goose chase."

What kind of IAPs can players expect?

"You can buy crystals that can be used to summon legions and also speed up construction in your village. There are, however, many ways to earn free crystals within the game, so you can play and get far without any real money."

Are you planning updates and, if so, what should we be looking forward to?

"The Guild War will become more advanced over time and we’ll be looking to expand the character selection in time."

Have you any plans to bring the game to any other mobile platforms, such as Windows Phone, or Steam?

"Not at present, just iOS and Android for now."

Legend of War is available, free, on the App Store and Google Play from May 26th.

How to command and conquer in Raid HQ

Posted by Jessica Famularo on May 25th, 2016
+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Raid HQ is a satisfyingly deep base building game with over-the-top macho action and explosions. This little free to play bundle gives you a lot to do from managing a squad to building the most powerful base you possibly can.

On top of all of that, you’ll need to manage your resources and hit the high seas to raid other bases. Luckily for you, we’ve pulled together a few tips to help you keep everything in order.

Keep those builders busy

Your base starts off with only the bare essentials, so make sure you get to work improving your defence right away!

Begin by building all of the different facilities you’ve unlocked so far. Once you have one of each (although a few extra gold mines never hurt), you can start focusing on upgrading. Don’t forget to upgrade your mech as well - it’s your last bastion of defense when enemy raiders come knocking.

Pick the right squad mate for the job

Complete raids and missions and you'll be rewarded you with new squad member cards. You can only bring four of these into a raid with you, so choose carefully.

When going into a raid, it’s important to play against the enemy base’s weaknesses. Check the color of the enemy’s buildings and weapons. You’ll want to choose a team with colors that are strong against the enemy’s before heading into battle for the best results.

Promote your squad

If you want to take on more difficult challenges, you’ll need a hearty team of seasoned fighters. That means you’ll have to promote your squad members to increase their HP and damage per second.

To do so, collect medals by fighting weapons and bases that correspond to your squad member’s color. Fighting red turrets, for example, will reward you with red medals which you can use to promote any of your red team members.

How to build a successful civilisation in GodFinger 2

Posted by Jessica Famularo on May 24th, 2016

GodFinger 2 grants you godlike powers, leaving you to raise a civilization of followers. In the spirit of games like Black & White, the GodFinger games will see you building bigger and better villages, developing more advanced technology and resources while keeping your followers happy.

Being the creator of worlds is no simple task, but hopefully these tips will ensure that you do a great job.

Stock up on resources

To create more complex items, you’ll need to farm resources. For example, early on you need to grow wheat to make flour, which in turn makes bread to feed your followers. Keep your followers busy early on by steadily farming a supply of wheat, to in turn build up a supply of flour or chicken feed.

Having a stockpile of different resources will give you the items you need while freeing up your followers to take on newer, more exciting tasks as they become available.

Don’t forget to answer prayers

Each follower has their own individual life, with its own individual needs. Your followers will frequently offer up prayers to you, which you can then choose to answer. These prayers usually come in the form of requests for bread or wood, or some sort of other useful item.

Answering these prayers on a regular basis is a great way to keep your followers happy and loyal, but it also grants you coin as well, which can be used to build new structures.

Collect gift boxes

Every few hours the game will grant you with a gift box that will reward you with a handsome gold prize. Be sure to check for this reward in the bottom left corner of your screen every time you check in with the game. It’s easy to miss, but its free gold sitting right at your fingertips!

Playing god means you’ll be juggling a lot of different things. Dropping the ball might mean ruining your followers’ lives - no pressure! Follow the tips above to keep your world running smoothly.

Do you rule your hands with a merciful hand or an iron fist? Let us know your own strategies in the comments below.
